"Shadowlight will DESTROY US ALL!"
"Shadowlight will DESTROY US ALL!"
It's my way of describing the chaos unfolding in this world, but there may be hope. So, what the HELL is Shadowlight?
Why are we spending so much time and effort trying to understand what this stupid, ridiculous idea for a novel posted on itch.io?
I would ask the general audience one question: Why are you asking what Shadowlight is?
Go and read the book, why should I have to explain it twice? It's free anyway, what's wrong with you?
In all seriousness, while we spend a lot of time playing video games mindlessly (myself included), we forget what is important in life. One of the many questions posed in the novel is the idea of questioning oneself.
So, for example, I question why I play video games at all. I know I am procrastinating. It's a way to kill time, often for all the wrong reasons. Oh, I have a creative block either in writing or programming, so I decide instead to play games. It's not a good idea, but I do it anyway. It's addictive, but at the same time, boring.
Hardly any game is challenging these days, and when they are I get frustrated. It's not compelling. It's mindless soul-destroying repetition that only serves to kill what little time I have left on this planet. Perhaps I should be spending my time more wisely.
I've got another project, called Story Creator, which may be of use to myself, and maybe other people. Why do I create it? It's a tool to help build interactive stories. Why build interactive stories? It's a different way to tell a story through a medium that engages the user. Why engage a user with story? Users can feel like they can contribute to the outcome. So, what are the outcomes?
That's where video games come from, right? But interactive stories are the medium between games and novels. It's no wonder they are so niche and not many people are interested. But what if an interactive story could be interesting? What if this novel, Shadowlight, could be transformed into an interesting and compelling interactive story? Would you read it? Why play an interactive story when the novel already exists? Is it because it should be engaging or are there other reasons?
Oh, too many questions! I've gone mad, I'm going home!
Writing was hard enough, and it isn't even any good! Stop it! STOP IT!
Stop reading my book. The idea of an interactive story is also terrible. STOP! Shadowlight's going to kill me! I'm going to DIE!
Shadowlight. It's... it's...
